First Tier Greentips

° Buy electricity for your "green home or co-op from a utility that generates its power from renewable energy sources like the sun, wind, water, plants, and Earth's internal heat.
(This electricity is also called "Green Power". Buying "Green Power" from a utility is one of the easiest ways to use renewable energy without having to invest in equipment or take on extra maintenance.)
Some Green-E Certified Companies supplying NYC include:
Accent Energy
Ambit Energy
ConEd Solutions

° Reduce or eliminate "Standby Mode" energy use.
If you are not using your computer, monitor, TV, DVD Player, gaming console turn it off.

(Standby mode refers to a appliance's state when it is switched off but still connected to the main power supply.
Standby power accounted for approximately 5% of total residential electricity consumption in America, “adding up to more than $3 billion in annual energy costs”.

° Use compact fluorescent light bulbs with the ENERGY STAR® label or LED inside and outside your green home and in your building's public spaces.

° Air dry dishes instead of using your dishwasher’s drying cycle.

° Take a walk, a bike or use public transport instead of driving.

° Take a bag or a basket to the grocery or market, you really don't need another plastic bag.
